Trying my hand at Impressionism

This week I had a particularly delicious meal at a restaurant. Over the summer last year, my boyfriend and I discovered an intimate restaurant with outdoor seating and a brick oven for making pizza. He and I decided to go back this week since the food is impeccable. We ordered a normal pepperoni pizza and some rosemary garlic french fries on the side. As soon as the waiter was heading in our direction, I could smell the greasy deliciousness. The crust was a nice golden brown, the cheese layering on top, and spicy pepperoni cups to finish it off. I pulled a piece off of the pie and the cheese oozed and strung, which made my mouth water. I could barely wait for it to cool down long enough to avoid burning my mouth. When I finally could take a bite, I was not disappointed. The flavors of the brick oven on the crust collided with the sweet, tangy sauce and the savory cheese. And the fries were like the icing on the cake. The delicate blend of spices is a welcome change from fried and salted potatoes from McDonalds. Instead, these tasted like real potatoes that had been cut by hand and seasoned to perfection and sophistication. These are not your ordinary french fries.

  1. The impressionistic features I noticed about your piece is the way you described the pizza " The crust was a nice golden brown, the cheese layering on top, and the spicy pepperoni cups to finish it off. I pulled a piece off of the pie and cheese oozed and strung, which made my mouth water. The description of this pizza kind of makes me want to get the address, and go buy a slice. It also gives me a great visual of what the pizza might look like. Another impressionistic feature I caught was how you described the fries. I loved your descriptions. It wasn't over done or anything it was just enough. It kind of reminds me of john's descriptions of characters. He didn't give you a lot of details, but it was just enough to place the image in your mind.

  2. Your descriptions of the food here is what screams impressionism to me. It makes me not only thing about the food itself, but how it was made (the brick oven). The imagery here gives me a great idea of what the pizza looked like, and what it might taste like. Overall, I think everything fits just right together here and it gets everything across.

  3. I really like how you described the food in your post. I think that whenever we eat food we don't experience all of the flavors at once, instead it is the layered sensation of flavors on our pallet that signals to us what we are eating and whether or not it is good or bad. I think your post did a good job of describing this sensation, it definitely made me want a piece of pizza haha.
