Modern Symbolic Form

Who goes all day without having a television on, at least just for the background noise televisions produce? That's why I'm choosing a television for a modern symbolic form. It doesn't necessarily matter what program is being aired or what you're interested in, just the fact that in any given household at any given time, chances are pretty good that a television set will be tuned into. Also, there's all types of reality shows or contest-based shows that allow for viewers to vote for their favorites. For example, American Idol asks for fans to vote for their favorite singers. Millions of people vote weekly for their favorite singers. While this may not be more than the amount of voters for politicians or the president, it's pretty comparable. Millions of people are voting for random people on television shows and may not be voting for a presidential candidate. What's that say about our nation as a whole? I mean, I've tried to vote for shows like American Idol or The Voice, but I didn't vote in the last presidential election. What does that say about me? Media, because of television, has taken over our nation. It's why television is definitely an example of a symbolic form in today's society.
